• Test drive vehicles and test components and systems using equipment such as infrared engine analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized diagnostic devices.
• Inspect vehicles for damage and record findings for necessary repairs.
• Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
• Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes.
• Estimate costs of vehicle repairs and review work orders with supervisors.
• Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, and emissions control systems using electronic testing equipment.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to thoroughly assess vehicle issues, provide a detailed explanation of the work performed, and outline any recommended future repairs or maintenance needs.
• Align vehicle front ends and test electronic computer components to ensure proper operation.
• Tear down, repair, and rebuild faulty assemblies such as power systems, steering systems, and linkages.
• Perform routine and scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, and tune-ups.
• Follow checklists to inspect belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other critical areas.
• Plan repair procedures using technical manuals and experience.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area at all times.
• Assist in cleaning car rental vehicles or supporting other shop duties when not actively performing mechanical tasks.
• Align wheels, axles, frames, torsion bars, and steering mechanisms using specialized equipment.
• Tune engines for proper and efficient functioning.
